Kolkata, November 23, 2024: The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS) organised a landmark International Conclave titled Justice Dr. Radha Binod Pal and Quest for Justice: Historical Perspective and Contemporary Implications at ITC Sonar, Kolkata. The event commemorated Justice Radha Binod Pal, an iconic figure in international jurisprudence, best known for his courageous dissenting opinion at the Tokyo Trials, where he upheld the principles of fairness, impartiality, and legality.

The conclave brought together legal luminaries, scholars, and policymakers to discuss Justice Pal’s legacy and its relevance to contemporary global legal challenges. The distinguished guests included Hon’ble Justice P. S. Narasimha and Hon’ble Justice Dipankar Datta from the Supreme Court of India; Hon’ble Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, Chief Justice of the High Court at Calcutta; Hon’ble Justice Soumen Sen of the Calcutta High Court; and Shri Moloy Ghatak, Minister-in-Charge of the Law & Judicial Department, Government of West Bengal. International scholars such as Professor Mark A. Drumbl from Washington and Lee University, Professor Vincent Chetail from the Geneva Graduate Institute, and Professor William Schabas from Middlesex University, London, also graced the event. Dr. Prosenjit Pal, the great-grandson of Justice Pal, joined the discussions, along with other dignitaries, including Consul General Nakagawa Koichi of Japan.

The event featured engaging keynote speeches, panel discussions, and academic exchanges that explored themes such as justice, decolonisation, and the evolution of international law. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Nirmal Kanti Chakrabarti, Vice Chancellor of WBNUJS, highlighted Justice Pal’s fearless commitment to justice and called for renewed academic focus on his ideals.

The conclave was a fitting tribute to Justice Radha Binod Pal, whose vision and principles continue to inspire global legal discourse. WBNUJS extended heartfelt thanks to all participants for making this event a memorable celebration of his enduring legacy.

আজ অনুপম হালদার বলেছেন, “রাজ্যের বিভিন্ন জেলায় সরকারী ও বেসরকারী স্তরের বিভিন্ন উৎসব বা মেলায় আমার আলোকচিত্র প্রদর্শনীর চিন্তা ভাবনা এখন শেষ পর্যায় রয়েছে।”

কোলকাতা (৩১ অক্টোবর ‘২৪):- ‘ভূত চতুর্দশী’-র সন্ধ্যায় গতকাল সর্বসাধারণের জন্য উন্মোচিও হল ২৪ পল্লী চেতলা দশমহাবিদ্যার মাতৃমণ্ডপ ও মাতৃমূর্তি।

মাতৃমণ্ডপ ও দশমহাবিদ্যা-র প্রতিমাসকলের উদ্বোধনী মুহূর্তে উপস্থিত হয়েছিলেন ভারত সেবাশ্রম সংঘের অন্যতম সন্ন্যাসী স্বামী নির্মলানন্দ মহারাজ, প্রখ্যাত চলচ্চিত্র পরিচালক গৌতম ঘোষ, বাচিক শিল্পী নন্দিনী লাহা, পশ্চিমবঙ্গ সরকারের অর্থ মন্ত্রকের অধীন রাজস্ব বিভাগের অন্যতম যুগ্ম আয়ুক্ত অনুপম হালদার সহ একাধিক বিশিষ্ট ব্যক্তিবর্গ।

উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানের পর সাংবাদিকদের সাথে কথা বলতে গিয়ে অনুপম হালদার আশা প্রকাশ করে বলেছেন, “আশা করব সমাজের সকল কলুষতা ও কালিমা মহাকালীর কালগহ্বরে বিলীন হয়ে গিয়ে সমাজ আবার সুস্থ ও স্বাভাবিক হয়ে উঠবে।”
অন্যদিকে গৌতম ঘোষ তাঁর নিজের বক্তব্যে জানিয়েছেন, “আমাদের বিশ্বাস রাখতে হবে, মনে রাখতে হবে নাস্তিকরাও কোনো এক বিশেষ মতে বিশ্বাস রাখেন, তাই আস্তিকদেরও বিশ্বাস হারালে চলবে না, নিজের ও সমাজের প্রতি তাদেরও বিশ্বাস রাখতে হবে। সম্ভবতঃ রামকৃষ্ণও বলে গেছেন ‘বিশ্বাসে মিলায় বস্তু তর্কে বহুদূর’।”

পুজোর আয়োজকদের তরফে পিয়ালি ঘোষ জানিয়েছেন, “এই বছর ৪৬ বর্ষে পদার্পণ করল দশমহাবিদ্যার পুজো, যদিও এখানে ১১০ বছর ধরে চলে আসছে সর্বসাধারণের কালীপুজো।”
