Kolkata, October 13: Dr. Andrew Fleming, British Deputy High Commissioner, Kolkata, presented the EEPC India Eastern Region Awards to top-performing engineering goods exporters at the joint ceremony of the 40th & the 41st. As many as 73 awards to the 42 Member Exporters from the region for their outstanding engineering export performance during the financial years 2021-22 and 2022-23. India has made significant strides towards becoming a ‘global superpower’ in the engineering segment, and EEPC India has played a vital role in this regard deliberated Dr Fleming. He further added, “The India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) signed in July this year is a landmark development in the bilateral relations between the two countries. This is going to unlock huge opportunities for trade and investment across diverse sectors. For the Indian engineering sector, it holds great promise. The recent visit of our Hon’ble Prime Minister, along with the biggest ever trade delegation, underscores the importance the UK attaches to the bilateral ties with India.
Mr Vimal Anand, Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India in a message, congratulated all the awardees and noted that engineering exports from Eastern Region surpassed US$11.08 billion in the financial year 2024-25, contributing 10% to India’s total engineering exports. In his message, Mr Anand stated that despite significant global challenges, including supply chain disruptions in the Red Sea, regional conflicts, and the rise of protectionist trade policies, the engineering export community of India continues to achieve remarkable milestones. Engineering goods exports from India reached their all-time high of US$116.67 billion in fiscal 2024-25. “The Government of India continues to demonstrate unwavering commitment towards supporting exporters across all regions by prioritizing the ease of doing business, expansion of market access, and fortifying trade infrastructure.
Mr. Aakash Shah, Vice Chairman, EEPC India, congratulated all the award winners, saying that they are real champions .Referring to the Trump tariff and the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), Mr Shah said, “Protectionist policies from developed nations are becoming more frequent. To navigate this, we must broaden our global reach. Diversifying our export destinations is key to long-term resilience. Regions like Latin America, Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East offer immense potential for engineering products and infrastructure development.”
Mr. B. D. Agarwal, Regional Chairman (ER), EEPC India, congratulated the award winners and also acknowledged the contributions of those exporters who had not been selected this year.He underscored the pivotal role of MSMEs, noting that they are the structural pillars of many global economies. “It is expected that engineering exports would continue their positive trend during the journey of reaching the ambitious export target of $300 billion by 2030 set by the government.

Dr Rajat Srivastava, Additional Executive Director, EEPC India, stated that fiscal year 2021-22 marked a significant milestone for India, with engineering exports surpassing US$100 billion for the first time, reaching an impressive US$112 billion. This achievement reflects the resilience, adaptability, and innovation of the exporting community. Engineering exports in 2022-23 engineering exports surpassed the predicted value of US$105.82 billion set by the Government of India for 2022-23, reaching US$107.04 billion. ” Dr Srivastava noted.
Ms Jaya Basu, Regional Director (ER), EEPC India, also hailed the effort of the Government in bolstering the outbound engineering shipment. Eastern Region has been a historic industrial heartland for over two centuries, consistently showcasing its capacity for innovation and excellence and the Regional exporters’ performance manifest the region’s indomitable entrepreneurial spirit.
