আজ কোলকাতায় এক সংক্ষিপ্ত অনুষ্ঠানের মাধ্যমে ‘ইণ্ডিয়ান ইনস্টিটিউট অব সোশ্যাল ওয়েলফেয়ার অ্যাণ্ড বিজনেস ম্যানেজমেন্ট’ এবং ‘ভক্তিবেদান্ত রিসার্চ সেন্টার’-এর মধ্যে এই বিষয়েই এক আলোচনা সভা হয়ে গেল।

‘বি আর সি’-র তরফে বলা হচ্ছে, “এই সেতুবন্ধন সম্পন্ন হলে ভবিষ্যতে গবেষক ও সমাজ উপকৃত হবে।”

অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন বিশ্বভারতী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রাক্তন উপাচার্য ও আই আই এস ডাব্লু বি এম-এর গভর্নিং বডির অধ্যক্ষ ডঃ সুজিত বসু, স্টকহোম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ডঃ ফার্দিনান্দ সারদেলা, আই আই এস ডাব্লু বি এম-এর পি এইচ ডি বিভাগের আহ্বায়ক অধ্যাপক ডঃ কে এম আগরওয়াল ও অধ্যাপক ডঃ তনিমা রায়।

কলকাতা, 26শে ফেব্রুয়ারি, 2024:  ভারতের অন্যতম শীর্ষস্থানীয় টেলিকমিউনিকেশন পরিষেবা প্রদাতা, ভারতী এয়ারটেল আজ হুগলী নদীর 35 মিটার নীচে হাই-ক্যাপাসিটি নোড স্থাপন করার মাধ্যমে জলের তলায় মেট্রো যাত্রীদের জন্য সর্বপ্রথম নিরবচ্ছিন্ন মোবাইল সংযোগ তৈরি করা উদ্যোগের কথা ঘোষণা করেছে। শীঘ্রই চালু হতে চলা এই মেট্রো পরিষেবার মাধ্যমে যাত্রী পরিবহণ শুরু হওয়ার আগেই এয়ারটেল নিজেদের পরিকাঠামোয় বিনিয়োগ করা শুরু করে দিয়েছে। এর ফলে এয়ারটেলই হবে প্রথম অপারেটর যারা হাওড়া ময়দান থেকে এসপ্ল্যানেডকে সংযুক্ত করা কলকাতার ইস্ট-ওয়েস্ট মেট্রো করিডোরের 4.8 কিলোমিটার জুড়ে আগাগোড়া মোবাইল সংযোগ দেবে।

মোবাইল সংযোগের চিত্র পাল্টে দেওয়া এই পরিষেবা চালু করার জন্য, এয়ারটেল 4.8 কিলোমিটার দূরত্ব, হাওয়া ময়দান, হাওড়া ষ্টেশন, মহাকরণ ও এসপ্ল্যানেড ষ্টেশন ফাইবারের মাধ্যমে সংযুক্ত করেছে। এই প্রতিটি ষ্টেশনে হাই-ক্যাপাসিটি নোড স্থাপন করা হয়েছে যাতে যাত্রীরা নিরবচ্ছিন্ন সংযোগ পাওয়ার মাধ্যমে 5G স্পীড ব্যবহার করতে পারেন, একটানা কথা বলে যেতে পারেন ও ডেটার লেনদেন করতে পারেন, ফলে গ্রাহকরা প্রতিদিনের যাতায়াতের পথেও সংযুক্ত থাকতে পারেন ও দরকারী কাজ চালিয়ে যেতে পারেন।

উল্লেখ্য, ভক্তিসিদ্ধান্ত সরস্বতী ঠাকুর প্রভুপাদ গৌড়ীয় বৈষ্ণব ধর্মের প্রচারে তৎকালীন ভারতে ৬৪টি মঠ প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছিলেন। ভারতের বাইরে ব্রম্ভদেশ, জার্মানী এবং ইংল্যান্ডেও গৌড়ীয় বৈষ্ণব প্রচার কেন্দ্র প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন। এর সুবাদে দেশের বাইরেও কৃষ্ণনাম ছড়িয়ে দিয়েছিলেন। তাঁর জন্মের সার্ধ শতবর্ষ উপলক্ষে তাঁকে নিয়ে বিশাল প্রদর্শনী খোলা হয়েছে সর্বসাধারণের জন্য। বেশ কয়েক মাস ধরে এই প্রদর্শনী চলবে বলে ইসকন সূত্রে জানানো হয়েছে।

উল্লেখ্য, ২০২৩ সালের নভেম্বরে ইউনেস্কো শ্রীমৎ ভক্তিসিদ্ধান্ত সরস্বতী ঠাকুর প্রভুপাদের মতো দার্শনিক, সমাজ সংস্কারক ও বিশিষ্ট আধ্যাত্মিক মহাপুরুষের ১৫০ তম জন্মবার্ষিকীকে তাদের বার্ষিকী উদযাপনের তালিকায় অন্তর্ভুক্ত করেছে।
মূলতঃ ইস্কন মন্দিরের জন্য মায়াপুরে সারা বছর পুণ্যার্থী থেকে সাধারণ পর্যটকের অভাব হয় না। এই প্রদর্শনী চলাকালীন মন্দিরের পাশাপাশি মায়াপুরেও পর্যটকের সংখ্যা বাড়বে বলে আশা।

In his address, CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal highlighted the pivotal role of the ICAI in shaping and upholding standards, augmenting revenue, and instilling financial discipline in the nation. With a membership base of 4 lakhs and over 8.5 lakhs students pursuing the CA course, the ICAI stands as the largest accounting body globally, operating in 81 countries. Emphasizing gender equality, he noted that 29% of members and 43% of students are women, reflecting the institute’s commitment to inclusivity.

Aligning the Institute’s objectives with the Government of India’s vision of achieving developed nation’s status by 2047, CA. Agarwal announced a strategic roadmap spanning 2024 to 2049, marking it as the “Golden Period of the Profession,” with the centenary year of the institute as a focal point.

CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, assuming the esteemed position as the 72nd President of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), and the 12th President from the Eastern Region, held his inaugural Press meet to unveil the institute’s vision, “Drishti,” to a packed audience of journalists from various electronic and press media outlets.

Under the theme “Drishti,” CA. Agarwal outlined key initiatives:
D for Digitalisation: Implementing E-Office and integrating technology like AI and blockchain into CA practices, with the formation of the AI in ICAI committee.
R for Research: Collaborating with the government to enhance the tax-to-GDP ratio, signing MoUs for accounting and auditing issues, and establishing an Aggregation of Firms committee.
I for Integrity: Introducing the UDIN scheme for authentic document certification by the Chartered Accountants.
S for Skill: Launching a new education and training scheme in CA Course, emphasizing ethics and technology.
H for Handholding: Each One Teach One scheme and collaborating with C&AG for accountability in local governance.
T For Transparency: Mandating peer review mechanisms to enhance audit quality.
During the Q&A session at the end, CA. Agarwal took a few queries from the audience. The meet concluded with a note of serious commitment to advancing the profession ensuring its part in nation building.

In order to create opportunities for accounting professionals abroad, ICAI has provided comments and inputs to the government on a regular basis in the area of Accounting, Bookkeeping, and Auditing services (CPC 862) in the ongoing negotiations on trade in services with its FTA partners – UK, Canada, and Australia. Further this year, ICAI has constituted a new committee named as Committee for Aggregation of CA Firms. The mandate of this committee is to bring together the smaller firms and make them globally competent by pooling their resources.

Towards strengthening infrastructure development, Presidents shared that 11 (CoE) Centres of Excellence across the country are in the pipeline. As a socially responsible institution, CA. Agarwal added that the 3rd such Centre would be functional by December 2024 at Kolkata, West Bengal after the two centres at Hyderabad and Jaipur, which would be of immense benefit for the profession.

Visa application volumes from Kolkata in 2023 remained strong and closed in further to the pre-pandemic levels with restoration of travellers’ confidence to explore global destinations. According to VFS Global, the visa application volume from Kolkata registered a 2% year-on-year growth in 2023. When compared to the pre-pandemic numbers, visa application volumes from Kolkata reached 91% of the 2019 levels.

The demand pattern in Kolkata was in line with the overall growth trend registered in India, which saw a 16% year-on-year in visa applications in 2023. In comparison to the pre-pandemic numbers, visa application volumes from India reached 93% of the 2019 levels.

“We continued to witness robust demand from India and the entire South Asia region in 2022 which led to an extended peak outbound travel season with steady volumes witnessed throughout the year. A few of the popular destinations preferred by travellers from India in 2023 were Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, UK, US (in alphabetical order).

Strong demand for personalised services continued to be a defining trend in the 2023 visa application patterns as well. VFS Global recorded a strong uptick in customised services such as the Visa At Your Doorstep (VAYD) service that empowers applicants to complete their entire visa application submission process from the comfort of their homes or any other location of their choice. Through this premium service, customers can submit their applications, enroll for biometrics, and get their passport couriered back to their location of choice. VAYD bookings in 2023 in India registered around five-fold increase when compared to 2019. VFS Global offers VAYD services for 16 countries in India – Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Switzerland, and UK.

Similarly, the demand for Premium Lounge, an optional service which provides end-to-end personalised assistance with visa application submission from the comfort of a lounge, is rising with the rise in application volumes. Another service named Prime Time, which allows visa application submission outside of working hours and even on weekends, has seen a healthy adoption since pandemic.

“We continue to see a healthy adoption of contactless and personalised services such as VAYD and Premium Lounge by discerning travellers post the pandemic due to health considerations. These services enhance the overall  experience for applicants by offering them greater comfort and convenience when submitting their visa applications. We foresee higher demand for such premium services prioritising safe travel this year as well,” added Jairath.
